new family member

Hi!

This is the newest member of our family. His name is Gilbert. He arrived yesterday... ALL the way from The Wren's Nest . He is settling in to life on our hearth very nicely though he seems to be a wee bit lonely. And, since we just love him soooooooooo much, his brother Sullivan (Sully for short) is making his way to our house now.

A picture will be posted upon the arrival of Sully.

What's in a name?

Lee was my first husband’s middle name. Lee is my first son’s middle name. Leigh is my only granddaughter’s middle name. And Lee is the middle name of the man I am now married to. This name sure got a good work out in all my family connections. Now, all this came about BEFORE I found out that my birth name is/was Lee (just plain Lee, no middle name). This discovery came after my adopting mother died (January 2006) – the court papers changing my name were in her safe deposit box. I was adopted at 11 months of age and was named Carol Elizabeth.

So, just what is in a name? And does it affect who you are?

I read about both my names through a website linked with the birthday calculator that was used for the birthday meme back in November. It states that my names mean:
Lee: (English, female) Meadow
Carol: (French, female) Song of Joy;
(English, female) feminine form of Charles meaning strong or manly.

Basically, this site uses numerology for its base. It gives you numbers for (a) characteristics and expressions or destiny, (b) soul serge, and (c) inner dream. From all that information, I decided to take a positive and a negative essence used to describe both names in each category.

LEE…
(a) Number 5. Positive = “master of adaptability and change.” Negative = restless and impatient.
(b) Number 8: Positive = strong urges to supervise and organize. Negative = rigid and stubborn.
(c) Number 6: The essence of this number is “You dream of guiding and fostering the perfect family in the perfect home. You crave the devotion from offspring and a loving spouse. You picture yourself in the center of a successful domestic unit.”

CAROL
(a) Number 7. Positive = good at searching out and finding the truth. Negative = overly critical and intolerant.
(b) Number 3. Positive = energy is friendly, outgoing and always very social. Negative = at times become too easygoing and too optimistic, tending to scatter forces and accomplish very little. Everyone has faults, but the 3 soul urge doesn't appreciate having these pointed out.
(c) Number 4. You dream of being a very solid citizen that people can depend upon. You strive for organization and predictable order. You want to be recognized as a person with a plan and the discipline to make that plan work like clockwork

I have always felt like I am two people – one tugging at the other. Not the you-have-a-twin-somewhere tug or the good-n-evil tug (although I do experience a lot of that anyway); just the sort of tug that thinks and acts in two (or three, or six) different directions all the time. It’s become easier to deal with these forces as I age, but there are always the “who am I” and “why am I like this” questions.

So which of these two names is MY name? Which holds the key to who I am? Well, they both do. And I imagine that most of you who read this can relate to all the essences I have found in my short investigation. Since I have been Carol on paper longer, I tend to see more of the carol-essence in my being. But the lee-essence is right in there also – especially that (c) .

Thanks for stopping by again... until next time...

Blog the first

Hello. My name is Carol... some of you know me as "carol g".

First of all, thank you Jamie over at Duward Discussion for patiently waiting and occassionally nudging me to do this.

I am not nearly the professional writer that I "see" in all the other bloggers around this arena; and am very nervous writting this - my first.

I stole my blog title from a Brad Paisley song... if only I can be as inventive as some of these song writers...

A LETTER TO ME

"If I could write a letter to me
And send it back in time to myself at 17
First I'd prove it's me by saying look under your bed
There's a Skoal can and a Playboy no one else would know you hid
And then I'd say I know it's tough
When you break up after seven months
And yeah I know you really liked her and it just don't seem fair
All I can say is pain like that is fast and it's rare

And oh you got so much going for you going right
But I know at 17 it's hard to see past Friday night
She wasn't right for you
And still you feel like there's a knife sticking out of your back
And you're wondering if you'll survive
You'll make it through this and you'll see
You're still around to write this letter to me

At the stop sign at Tomlinson and Eighth
Always stop completely don't just tap your breaks
And when you get a date with Bridgett make sure the tank is full
On second thought forget it that one turns out kinda cool
Each and every time you have a fight
Just assume you're wrong and dad is right
And you should really thank Mrs. Brinkman
She spent so much extra time
It's like she sees the diamond underneath
And she's polishin' you 'til you shine

And oh you got so much going for you going right
But I know at 17 it's hard to see past Friday night
Tonight's the bonfire rally
But you're staying home instead because if you fail Algebra
Mom and dad will kill you dead
Trust me you'll squeak by and get a C
And you're still around to write this letter to me

You've got so much up ahead
You'll make new friends
You should see your kids and wife
And I'd end by saying have no fear
These are nowhere near the best years of your life

I guess I'll see you in the mirror
When you're a grown man
P.S. go hug Aunt Rita every chance you can

And oh you got so much going for you going right
But I know at 17 it's hard to see past Friday night
I wish you'd study Spanish
I wish you'd take a typing class
I wish you wouldn't worry, let it be
I'd say have a little faith and you'll see
If I could write a letter to me
To me "
